Food Choices And Your Heart

Food Choices And Your Heart
By making a few small changes to your diet, you can make a massive difference to the health of your heart.

But where do you start? The main thing to remember is not to be too hard on yourself and ‘give up’ all your favourite foods. You’ll not only find it virtually impossible to stick to, you’ll also be missing out on a lot of the nutrients your body needs to function properly. So make sure you enjoy what you eat and eat a variety of foods.

Learn to Love Your Heart

At Becel we believe that your heart is the centre of your health. Because we cannot see our heart, we sometimes take it for granted and do not always do what’s best to keep it healthy.

Doctors and health organisations, such as The Society of Cardiology of The Russian Federation (VNOK) agree that heart disease is a serious health risk. It is the number one cause of death globally, yet chances can be significantly reduced by taking simple steps towards healthy eating every day.

Say ‘Yes’ To Healthy Foods

Simple changes to food (and lifestyle) can make a positive difference to our heart health.

Here are some tips on how to make the right food choices to keep our hearts healthy:

• Base your meals on starchy foods e.g. bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes
• Eat more fish, especially oily fish, naturally rich in Omega 3
• Cut down on ‘bad’ (saturated) fats such as butter, cream and other full fat dairy products, processed meats, cakes and biscuits. Instead, have foods rich in ‘good’ oils, such as vegetable oils (including sunflower, rapeseed and olive oil), avocados, nuts and seeds, and products made from them like Becel.
• Eat lots of fruit and vegetables - at least five servings every day
• Try to eat less salt - no more than 6g every day
• Avoid drinking lots of alcohol. Women should drink no more than 14 units per week and men 21 units per week
• Drink plenty of water – between six and eight glasses a day
